Module 1 Tasks

Exam Over

Yeah, the Exam is finally over !!! Is so happy that at least can have a break for myself and can start planning my next journey. i guess since the exam, i had been losing a number of weight, everyday slept at 4am and wake up early 10 o'clock...Just finished my breakfast at 11 and have to continue studying again.. It just seems like I am trying to torture my self..hahah.. Student life is really hard, just wish i can complete all my course as soon as possible and can start traveling to different countries...just can't imagine how fun is it ...Aiyah so sad... Anyway i think i will have to go for dinner now and will continue my Part 2 blog again when there is free time. Thanks for visiting my blog , feel free to drop down any message and also thanks to all my friends for supporting on my exam. HeHe.

Module 1

Just finish my Dinner and trying to turn on the TV to get some good program but all channels just seems boring ....Aiyah, nothing can do, just feeling to sleep too but the weather is too hot...Finally decide to have a goal on Module 1 ...Haha... Hopefully, the weather will turn cool after i complete my first Module. Haha. The first question was to try out using telnet and get into Deakin's University Library to find out the Author on Bennahum. The answer was "Managed Care: financial, legal and ethical issues" and an email was sent to me after entering my email address. That’s fun, but its time consuming, i still prefer the normal database system. Fast and easy.

The Second Question was to find the readme file , which was located at the MSC Folder and according to the question the Blank word which was missing was "CAPITALIZATION ". After few click i finally managed to find it ...that's a great achievement. Haha Finally the third Question was to try out the Traceroute from the choose site to curtin.edu.au.There are a total of "16" hops, average time "245" and the IP address was 134.7.134.47 which was tested using "VisualRout". However, when I used CentralOps the answer was abit different. There is a total of "23" hops, average time is "246" and the IP is the same. "Different from the Test Area". Hmm, still can't really figure out what is the problem hopefully can get the answer from the discussion board.

VisualRoute

The results which came from VisualRoute http://visualroute.visualware.com/

Centralops This is another results that came from Centralops http://centralops.net/co/

IP address answer different from Self Test Finally, figure out why the IP adress answer was different from the self test. I was told that one for the reasons might be they change the server all the time which happened the IP changed as well and it is not a relly big issue. Many Thanks to my fellow friends for the help.

Module 2 Tasks

Module 2 Tasks

Module 2 Email Tasks

1. What information about a user's email, the origin of a message, and the path it took, can you glean from an email message?

I can know the information of the user by looking though the email address or with the name, in fact i had the user information in my address book earlier, as a result when the email arrive in my inbox they will just show their name rather than their email. However, some email that came from my university, and I can easily tell because they will include something like Edu(unisa@edu.au), and if I received something with an Gov I can tell they were from the government office or the Tax office Taxoffice.gov.au. Furthermore, some will even include SA at the middle end of the email address such as ATO@gov.sa.au and I can tell they were from South Australia with the include of Sa( South Australia) plus au stand for (Australia).

2. In what cases would you find it useful to use the 'cc', 'bcc' and 'reply all functions of email?

Cc stands for carbon copy which means that whose address appears after the Cc: header would receive a copy of the message. Also, the Cc header would also appear inside the header of the received message. Cc is stands for carbon copy, which means that those name that in Cc will received a copy of my message and their identity will be shown. In many cases, this a like a multi ways communication, which for example: when I am chatting with Jane, but Mike is also involve in this situation, as a result in order to let Mike know what i have chat with Jane, I will include Mike's email address in Cc' so that he can received a copy of our conversation and understand what we are talking about.

On the other hand, "Bcc" is a short form name of “blind carbon copy" which is similar to Cc but the different is that the identity is not shown. In practice Bcc were to be useful when you were to send a number copy of email to a number of recipients (John, Mary Karen) but you do not intent to show their email address of the recipients (john Mary Karen) . As a result, when John received the message, he will not know that you have actually sent to Mary and Karen. It will only appear the sender email address which is yourself. In many ways this is very useful when I were to sending an important message which I think the identity of the recipients should be visible I will use bcc as identity of users are always consider as private and confidential . One good explanation of Bcc demo which can be found is from http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/word/HP010746961033.aspx

3. In what ways can you ensure that an attachment you send will be easily opened by the receiver?

In order to allow my attachment be easily to be opened by the receiver, I will either save the file in a different format. For example if a picture were to be 3.0mb on Jpeg and it will take a longer time, I will rather save it Bitmap or Gif file so that the user can easily opened it. On the other hand, i might also consider using Winzip, to zip the file so that it can be easily be saved, opened and will take a shorter time for the receiver to opened.

4. What sorts of filters or rules do you have set up, and for what purpose?

As I am currently using Hotmail and Yahoo mail as my main email account. In fact, I had setup a number of filters in order to look more organized as when I am looking for my message. For example: i had setup different folder with different names such as (Curtin, Mum, Brother and Friends). When my mum send an email to me, it will automatic sort the mail into the mum folder or when a mail which is came from curtin university it will also go to curtin university rather than i have to custom organized it. The purpose I am doing this is because I often have too many mail in my box, and without filter it would take too long time for me to find a mail which is important and also by doing this I will also make sure that i won' delete an important mail.

Furthermore I also often received mail which is unrelated (Junk Email) as I have no idea where did they got my email address from, as a result, I had added some rules on my mailbox which is only the address which is appear in my address will be include in my inbox else all other's mail will be in junk mail and will be removed within 7 days. By doing this, I can make sure that all important will not be left out and all junk will automatically be remove, also it won't take too many space of my mailbox.

5. How have you organized the folder structure of your email and why?

In regards to this question, as I have explain earlier this would make sure all mail will send to the correct folder and it save time for me to look for each message. (Please refer to question 4). In addition, I would say that Yahoo mail would be would be the best option compare to hotmail, because first it is easy to create a folder using Yahoo mail, and by using Yahoo mail it often takes a shorter time for me to open a folder. Finally, by using Yahoo mail I can also designed the color I like and there are more option's in Yahoo. Below Is a picture of how I organise my folder.

Module 2 Lists

Mailing Lists

A mailing lists is much like a newsgroup in that you subscribe to a lists based on its topic. The primary difference is that instead of visiting the newsgroup and reading message of your choice, a mailing list will automatically send every post to the group to your email address.

For a mailing list to work, someone has to handle its management and administration: mostly signing up new members and removing members who have asked to be removed.

In a few mailing lists, that administrative task is handled by a real person. However most mailing lists are managed not by person, but a lists server. Sometimes, the mailing lists managed by people are called manual mailing lists, to distinguish them from the lists automated by list server. A list server is also considering a program that automatically manages a mailing list. In fact there are many several different programs that managed mailing lists, including listserv, listproc and majordomo. They are often grouped under the term “listserv”.

Pro Mailing Lists

The first step in using mailing lists is finding one that interests you. Often you will see mention of mailing lists, along with the email address required for signing up: the subscription address. For example: when you subscribe to the tennis mailing lists which you interests, you will automatically received a lot of information related to tennis when something is happening such as there will be an upcoming competition (Davis Cup), information about tennis player, how to become a professional tennis players and others. In fact, most of your time will be save as you don’t need to go through different website to get the same information about the particular event on tennis if you are searching for .

Cons Mailing Lists

When you subscribe to mailing lists, your name, email address ( and interest in the list’s topic) are recorded in a database that might be accessed and copied very easily by a spammer, particularly if the lists it managed by a automated program. In fact, the spammer will also make you unpleasant which send many unrelated information to your email address which turn your mailbox into a junk mailbox.

Discussion Board

One of the internet principal discussion venues is the newsgroup, a sort of public bulletin board. There are thousand of newsgroups, each centering on a particular topic- everything from music to politics, from addiction recovery to TV shows.
Visitors to a newsgroup post messages that any other visitor can read. When reading a message, any visitor can quickly compose and post a reply to that message, to add information to the message, or to argue with it. As the replies are followed by replies to replies, a sort of free-form discussion.

Pro Discussion Board

Here are a few basics steps of being a good cyber citizen, particularly when you participate in a discussion groups.

Don’t shout – SOME FOLKS LIKE TO TYPE ALL MESSAGES ONLY IN CAPITAL LETTERS, and some others overuse capital letters for emphasis! on the internet capitalizing letters means you are shouting. As a result, avoid using capital letters except that is something important which you are trying to emphasis.

Keep current- New comers often tend to asked question’s that have already been asked and answered a dozen times, which often annoys the regular. As a result it is important to keep up with the conversation so you know what’s going on. Read the FAQ, if one is available.

Don’t use sarcastic language – It’s very difficult to communicate sarcasm effectively in a written message. Often, exaggerated messages intended as sarcasm are taken literally by those who read them, and confusion or arguments ensue.

Keep personal discussions personal- before sending any message, ask yourself, would this message interest the whole list, or is it really a personal message to just one member? If the message is really for one person, you can find the person email address in the header information and send directly to that person in private.

Finally try to be yourself within the style and culture of the group, to ensure that you can be understood by all.

Cons Discussion Board

When you post messages to a discussion board, a spammer can easily learn two things about you: your email address and that you’re interested in the newsgroup topic.

That’s valuable direct marketing information; if you post a message to a newsgroup about a particular kind of product, you can expect to receive spam trying to sell you such a product. If you post to a sex-related newsgroup, you will soon receive spam selling phone sex or other sex related stuff. In fact, you can read newsgroup messages anonymously- but when you post, you reveal your address. So watch up when you are posting a message on discussion board.

Are there certain kinds of communication or purposes more suited to one than the other?
Finally I would say that mailing lists discussion board and mailing lists are both great ways to keep with a subject that’s of interest to you. You can jump in and participate and, better yet, unsubscribe any time you want. In some case, I would say that I would prefer discussion board over mailings. As in discussion board I am able to read post which interest me and posting message on a discussion board without having to much fear that my mailbox will turn into a junk box.

However for mailing lists, after subscribing to your interest mailing lists you will often come to receiving messages which is related to your interest and unrelated messages. In fact, it is always very difficult to unsubscribe any time you want and filters cannot completely remove spam. As a result, I would say that it is better to think before you subscribe to any mailing lists and to prevent from being had to changing to a new email address.

An Example of Subcribing Mailing Lists

Module 2 Newsgroup

Newsgroups are discussion groups which have been around since the early days of the internet. There are thousands of newsgroups out there. You use special software to read and submit messages to newsgroup or you can search information in newsgroup using ‘Google groups’. Usenet and Bitnet are collections of newsgroup. The usenet is one of the oldest parts of the internet evolved from bulletin boards. If you send a message to a Usenet group then potentially anyone with internet access can read it. Below is an example of goggle tourism Malaysia newsgroup.

Module 2 ICQ

Today I have managed to get someone to entering my chat in yahoo. In fact, I found that I would be able to communication better in chat rather than face to face or on the phone because for me English isn’t my first language. In fact, I feel that by using chat as an communication tools, we could eventually build up a better friendship by getting to know each other better rather than on the phone which both of us might have difficulty in understanding. When we discuss about the topic on which chat service would be the best preference, many vote yahoo messenger as their most prefer.

Many stated that one of the main reasons they choose msn is because most of their friend’s are more on yahoo messenger which when come to communication the message appear to be arrive more easily. Indeed, there are also not much different within yahoo messenger, icq and webct chat. The difference might be webct appear to be have less function compare with yahoo and icq as it is mainly created for Curtin student and to discuss problem on their studies. In fact, the way it also don’t support webcam and voice mail and often it takes a long time to get into the server because there are always a lot of people in the room. As a result, when creating a chat room, they are often required password for entering the room or only people are invited are able to get in.

On the other hand, some students also cited that, when they are using yahoo messenger they are able to communicate with their family friends around the world without having to pay any additional costs. In fact, when calling from Australia to Malaysia it might properly cost $30 on the phone but for internet they might only costs them a costs of a local call. Even though some students appear to have still using 56 modem while communicate oversea which will cause a bit slow, however they still found it that the problems of speed could also be solve when all application had been closed except for yahoo messenger.

Finally, with the increase in technology such as broadband many things are able to be done in a fast manner and more time being safe. For example: by using yahoo messenger, I am able to doing many different things at the same time such as watching movie, reading email, playing games, downloading files and listening to music which the whole internet is been fully utilize without being waste.

Eventually, I personally feel that messenger has changed the way people communicate and has created many benefits for users in terms of costs, speed and others. Chat and instant messenger are fun, as long as you stay among people whose reasons for chatting are the sane as yours. Like a carnival or circus, chat is an entertaining place with a speedy and should enjoy with caution. But if you are careful, you can be safe interactive fun with chat and instant messages.

Module 2 Internet Rely Chat (IRC)
IRC is a form of internet communication which takes place in real time. There are subject-related chat groups similar to discussion groups but the communication is much more interactive with individuals responding and replying to each other’s messages in real time. IRC also provides less formal forums called chat rooms. IRC is usually text-based but real time voice and image-based chat systems are also emerging. In chat rooms, people communicate in real time using text.

More than two people chat at once, although this can be very confusing if people don’t behave in them and follow some basic etiquette. They are usually set for a particular time, and have a moderator. In fact, IRC may also support up to 100 people, depends on the size of the room. However, it should be remember that when the size increases the speedy eventually also slow down and cause some traffic for people who try to get in to particular room.

Chat groups have become very popular in IRC. As they operate in real-time they are similar to telephone party lines. Many people who participate in chat groups use fake names or identity so you don’t really know who you are chatting with or even their gender. Some people have established relationships on chat groups which they have continued in real life. However, there have also been reports of assaults and rapes resulting from chat groups relationships. As a result, it is important to note that your personal safety may be at risk, if you meet people from chat rooms which are unknown to you.

On the other hand, instant messaging is a lot like IRC chat, however there are a few key differences. One, most instant messages are sent to or received from people you know. Two the conversations are just between you and one other person which is unlike IRC where there are so many people chatting around. Instant messenger also let you see, from among a lists you set up yourself (a “Buddy Lists”) which of your friends are online at the same time you are (see the picture below). In fact, most Instant messenger also support web cam and voice conversation which your friend are able to see to through web cam and talk using a mirc.

In fact, if you have a hotmail account, you can automatically get Windows Live Messenger which is already installed in your computer when you purchase window software and you can use it immediately. If you know another person screen name, you can use Windows Live Messenger to see if they are online. If they are, you can type them a quick message and it automatically pops up on their screen.

Those who still don’t have Windows Live Messenger can download it from msn website
http://www.msn.com/. Its quick download and it walks you through step by step.

Module 3 Tasks

Module 3 Tasks

Module 3 – HTML Tags

This is the first time I am dealing with html tags and I would say it would be a challenge to me because personally I am not good in programming and often have difficulty in understanding html codes. However, in order to complete this tasks I think I will have no choice but to read through the html tutorial and writing html lesson 1-14 provided and record the difficulty which I encounter and tags which I am unfamiliar with.

The website really gave me an idea on how to write html, and by going through lesson 1-14 I had finally managed to create my own website. Perhaps I would personally rate this website as 10/10 as it is so useful that I would able to overcome all the problems which I had been facing for the past few years.

Pictures doesn’t appear
In fact there are still some difficulties which I am encountering while designing my own website. The first problem which I am facing is that I was unable to load the pictures. I have been trying different methods by changing the name of the picture, the location, size but the pictures still didn’t seem appear. However, after a number of try and going through the example I finally figure out the problem which indeed was I forgotten to add in .jpg at the end of the name of the picture. It was really tiring and much of my time had been wasted on fixing the first problem.

Slash Character
The second problem was when writing html codes, I often forgotten to add the slash character which is “/”. Indeed often when I finished my writing on codes, my page just couldn’t be show in a well manner which often I have to try one by one to find out which codes I have forgotten to add the slash character. I believed it is the most frustrating problem because it could takes you hours to find out the single slash and in fact if you are unable to figure the problem, the whole process fail which often I have to rewrite the whole html again. I would say that the best thing to do is to test the website every time you complete in order to prevent from having to rewrite the whole html again.

Linking with anchors
However I would say when you reach lessons 8, html codes become more complicated. Linking with anchors require many tries especially when you are intending to link with local files or links to section of the page. It often confused me up a number of times as the codes just appear to be very similarity but they just couldn’t function if the wrong formula had been applied.

Finally, designing a well looking websites is very important. It should be notice that alligment should be well adjust so that the words will be starting from the left to write. This causes less confusion, as the user would be pointed in the correct direction.
Below is a screen shot of progress which I make with word pad :

Module 3 - WWW Standards

Appearance
Very often, many appearances of the website show that there is some inconsistency, for example: the total heading in the total heading is not in bold and some of the alignments on the option box are not well justified. Indeed, the fonts of various aspects of the website are not Arial or Times New Roman and some of the title are in capital letters and some not. See figure 1.1

As a result, it should be remembered that the designed of the website is to communicate complex ideas clearly by using appropriate font and format. Whether the website is designed for business or personal use, the body text of the website should be prepared in Times New Roman or Arial font, line should be double-spaced or one-and-a-half spaced, set at 12 points and capital letters using in title of the system should be consistent because they are recommended and applicable for formal reading and unstructured format may appear arrogant.

Graph Lines
In regards to the graph, many of the websites often show that the graph lines appear to have similar colours with the background which indicates that it is very difficult to see.

To solve this problem they should avoid using as much high-resolution colours and should apply a different colour for the borders background, such as lighter colours. It is also suggested that the page would look better if lighter colours were used instead of yellow, which in fact could give the page a more professional look.

Pictures
Often when adding pictures or logo on the websites, users should design themselves by rather than copy from somewhere else because this could be plagiarism or breach of copyright and logo.

Colors
Furthermore, it should be noted that to much colors on a website may also appear to have some negative effect. Moreover, the pages appear to be in colour on a colour monitor. However if the printer used does not have colour capability, Internet explorer translates the colours to grey shades when printing. In fact, it’s difficult to distinguish some colours, particularly some dark ones, from one another when explorer translates them to grey shades and when printing.

As a result, when designing a websites make sure that the colours not so harsh to make the pages in the eplorer more readable while printing on printer that has no colour capability.

Make sure that purple or pink colours should not use as background as they will appear to be hard to read and give a bad impression to the reader.

Test and update
Finally, always test the whole website to make sure that all the formula and links works. It should always check to make sure that the links still exists and will bring to the correct site. The user should also make sure that all information is up to date and should update or modified their website frequent to give a new impression to the reader and to boost confident upon readers so that they will come and visit or support our website again.

Have you used images or words on your web page or website that contravene copyright laws? Would you be in breach of copyright if you put the Curtin logo at the top of your web page for an assignment? I have not used any images or words that contravene copyright law on my website. Copyright is the legal protection afforded an expression of an idea, such as a song, logo, video game, and some type of proprietary document. Having a copyright means that no ones can use your song, logo or video games without your permission.

In fact, I would have breach of copyright if I were to put the Curtin logo at the top of my web page for an assignment. It should be remembering that copyright infringement is illegal. That means that it is against the law, outside of a fair use situation, to simply copy a copyrighted picture, text, or anything else without permission, whether the copyrighted is on the internet or not. In particular, it’s illegal to copy copyrighted images, music or logos while doing assignments. In fact, it should be noted that unauthorized copying is illegal because copyrighted music, images and software are consider as intellectual property that is protected by copyrights law and user licensing agreements.

Eventually, some documents, books and software’s, allows you to use their copyright material for your personal, non commercial use or use within your organization for non-commercial purpose, provided that an appropriate acknowledge is made, and the material is not altered or information is not to be passed off as your own. For example, Learning Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 textbook that comes with software allows a 30days trial from the date of you purchased on a single computer and for academic use. It should note that the software or data are licensed and not sold to you. You own only the disk but they own the software itself. As a result, upon purchasing it is important to read the license carefully before opening the package.

Finally, subject to the fair dealing provisions of the Copyright Act 1968, you must not make any other use of copyright material unless you have the commonwealth’s written permission to do so or the organizations itself has given a remuneration notice to Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) under the Act (Commonwealth of Australia 2005).
This is a pictuire of a well design simple website

Module 3 FTP

Yeah, I am so happy that finally I am able to upload my website onto webct. It has eventually taken me hours to figure out the problem. I guess it is time for me to go to the pub to have some beer upon celebration with my friend Daniel by willing to spend hours with me figuring out the problem. Once again thanks a lot Daniel. The url of this website is
http://curtinnetcom.blogspot.com/.

Blog

I have chosen blooger to write my blog because I found that it is user friendly, providing more space in terms on which I have to upload a lot of images on to it. Indeed I also like the templates which they design, give me a feeling on warm welcome every time I visit to my website. Below is a snapshot of my blog.

‘Top Five Tips For New Bloggers’

Firstly, never just copy and paste someone's material: whether it is a picture, logo, or slogan as you may fall in the trap of Copyright Law. The best thing to do is to acknowledge where the material comes from by reference it or ask for permission first before using someone’s material.

Secondly, Avoid using unacceptable font’s that are hard to be read. Use font such as Time’s New Roman, Arial, Verdana and other’s which are more easily to be read. Also make sure that the Font should be change when writing a new blog, as this may create confusing upon reading and turn the page looks terrible.

Thirdly, new bloggers should always use the normal font size which is easy to be read and must avoid using Font Size that are too big (32) or too small (8). Indeed, the size should always be maintain the same rather them some are big and some are too small.

Furthermore , new bloggers should also avoid putting too many picture and too very litter words because this may take a long time for readers to open the page especially the reader’s that are still using modem. On the other hand, too many picture’s on the site with very limited words may also turn the reader’s attention down, as the information required are often too limited and the picture’s which are posted are often irrelevant or they doesn’t really match the site and may turn the site looks worst.

Finally, bloggers should often visit their site all the time by adding new information and remove materials which are too old. If the site always remains the same, readers may feel boring and decide not to visit again. However, if the site is left for a certain period without being used, modified or visit, the account may also turn into inactive and eventually you may have to start all over again or someone’s may have taken it away.

Module 4 Tasks

Module 4 Tasks - Downloading Tools

Adobe Pdf Reader

This software is really useful upon writing pdf files and reading pdf files. In fact most of the journal articles which I got from the websites are written in pdf files, as I think the main reasons would be it is easy to be used, wouldn’t take too long for downloading a ten pages file, pictures are well presented and the most important thing would be after downloading the file it is really easy to be read. It also support more secure, which often when I was just unable to modify the document in pdf files. Finally the latest pdf reader is also free to be used and it takes advantage of improved functionality such as saving pdf files in word documents and the layout, format, tables and pictures are all being retaining.

Window Media Player

I have downloaded media player and real network real one player in my computer to find out which one would be more useful. In fact the answer was media player, the design of media player looks more simple and easy to easy, the songs locate in the library are more easy to be located as in real player I just have problems in finding my songs. Even though most files support in media player can also be played in real player however I do find that when I am watching online movie, most website don’t really support real player and when they are played in real player they seems to me they are a bit slow and the quality aren’t that good. As a result, I think I would still rate media player 10/10 and real player 7/10.

Webcoppier

Webcoppier is a software which I found it useful to be use. It is able to help me by saving my favorite website on to my hard drive while I am sleeping or working rather than rely on my slow internet connection. In fact, the most important thing would be I was able to take full advantage of the whole websites by allowing me to copy, print and save the websites onto my pen drive or cd-rs. Furthermore the latest webcoppier also allow me to download me a number of website at the same time and resumes my incomplete files and create a number of backup files to prevent the loss of data. Below is an example of webcoppier.

Bookmark manager

Bookmarks manager is software which it is able to automatically keep track on our favourite websites and sort them according to alphabetically or according to the type you wish to. This will enable me easier to locate the website and the most important it is able to automatically import bookmarks from your browser. In fact I am also able to add on password on my bookmarks, so that no one will know allow opening my bookmarks. I had been using Bookmark manager for a number of years and I think it is worth install it in your computer as they won’t take much space and is so easy to be use. Below is a picture of bookmark manager.

Module 4 Searching Tasks

My most commonly used internet search engine would be Google as I feel that it is able to search more information and more detail compare to other search engine. I was able to hits 103,000,000 for the word advanced internet user in Google compare to yahoo 56,700,000. In fact, I was often told that Google is able to produce more websites which is related compare to other search engine.

Module 4 Boolean searching Task

In fact by using Boolean searching skills I was able to minimize I results from the previous 103,000,000 hits to 317,000,000 hits. In fact by following Boolean skills upon adding and, or, and not I am able to filter out the unrelated results and able to find the results that is most relevant, based on the word I type in the search. This searching skills is especially valuable when you are required to find something which is more related to your assignment topic.
